UN Climate Change Conference, setting the example!
The following was read on the home page for the United Nations Climate Change Conference holding place in Bali, Indonesia, from 3 to 14 of December 2007. The Conference of Parties set on Bali this december aims at discussing about what measures should be taken to mitigate climate change, especially after 2012, end of the Kyoto Protocol. It is reassuring to see that all the participants are completely dedicated to the cause they are working for, so much so that they question the dress etiquette!
Information Note on Dress Code
In consultation with the Host Country and responding to numerous queries from participants, the Climate Change Secretariat would like to propose that the dress code for participants at the upcoming Conference be adapted to take into account the warm and humid conditions in Bali.
The temperature in Bali ranges from 26 C to 30 C at this time of year and humidity is over 80 per cent.
The president designate H.E. Mr. Rachmat Witoelar and Mr.Yvo de Boer, Executive Secretary, have exempted secretariat staff from wearing jackets and ties after the opening and at least until the High Level Segment. The secretariat and president designate invite participants to follow suit.
The secretariat hopes that amending the dress code will allow participants to conduct discussions in a more comfortable environment, as well as limit the use of air conditioning and thereby reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
