All of EU to switch off energy inefficient lights within three years???
It is a post I read this morning, about EU following Australia’s recent decision to ban incandescent light bulbs from the market. Apparently the 27 countries of EU just agreed to do the same by 2010. I think it is a great decision ! Unexpected as far as I am concerned, since I wasn’t aware there were discussions about this subject at the European Council.
Here is the post about it in engadget.com.
Here is the REUTERS link (page 1. There are 2 pages, and page 2 is here).
And talking about this, and why we do this, I thought I needed to post something about the awesome documentary I saw last summer in the states, Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth”. The trailer is there below. If you haven’t seen the movie already, please do, it is really worth it. I think it is the best documentary I saw that explains what is global warming, how it is already affecting us and why we need to do something about it, urgently !
And just to finish with environmental movies, I thought you’d like to see the trailer for the classic “Soylent Green”. It is a 1973 movie, with all it implies as far as style goes, but it was one of the first environmental movies, addressing both the issues of overpopulation and destruction of the environment. The “good” thing (?) about the trailer is that you won’t need to see the movie after it : it is a pretty “complete” trailer ! Styles definitely have changed since the 70’s…
